Downgrading to iOS 8.1 no longer possible

Nearly a couple of weeks after releasing iOS 8.1.1, which brought along several bug fixes as well as increased stability and performance improvements for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, Apple has stopped signing iOS 8.1. This means that you’ll no longer be able to downgrade or restore to the previous firmware version.
The change in the signing status of iOS 8.1 can be confirmed on the popular third-party iOS firmware database IPSW Downloads -- the iOS 8.1 page on the website now shows red ‘!’ icons instead of green check mark icons.
If you prefer jailbroken devices, you’ll be pleased to know that iOS 8.1.1, which is compatible with the iPhone 4S and newer, iPad 2 and newer, and the fifth-generation iPod touch, is jailbreakable as well.

Samsung Galaxy A7 made its way through TENAA in China

Samsung Galaxy A7 made its way through TENAA in China. The upcoming smartphone is bound to become the Korean giant’s thinnest Galaxy smartphone to date.
The visit at the Chinese regulator reveals that Samsung Galaxy A7 has physical measures of 150.9 x 75.9 x 6.3 mm and weight of 133 grams. This means that the device is almost half a millimeter thinner than the already slender Samsung Galaxy Alpha.
TENAA’s device page also reveals that it will feature 5.5” 1080p display - right in line with past reports. The rest of the Samsung Galaxy A7 specs include 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC with 1.5GHz octa-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in memory, 12MP main camera, and 5MP front-facing unit.
Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy A7 version that passed through TENAA is made for the Chinese market. An international model is also expected.
Samsung Galaxy A7 will likely go official in the near future. The device will join the likes of Samsung Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 in the company’s new mid-range family.

The successor of OnePlus One will launch by Q3 of 2015

The successor of OnePlus One has been confirmed to launch by Q3 of next year according to the manufacturer’s global director Carl Pei. Unsurprisingly, the next generation handset is referred to as OnePlus Two.
The latest word on the device's launch falls right in line with a past report. However, we wish that the timeline wasn't as broad as the one that is mentioned (Q3 ends in September).
India will reportedly be one of the first markets to receive the upcoming smartphone from the young Chinese manufacturer. Curiously, its predecessor actually became available through Amazon in the vast market today.
There is no word on the hardware specs of OnePlus Two just yet. Rumor has it that the smartphone will be smaller than the OnePlus One and slightly more expensive.

Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 prices in Netherlands, to arrive Q1 2015

Samsung's new A series devices - Galaxy A3 and A5 mark a significant step towards satisfying customer desires for more metal on Samsung handsets. These eagerly anticipated phones are the first affordable smartphones, produced by the Korean giant with a metal frame.
However exciting this might be it turns out that new production methods are tough to cope with in an efficient manner, even for the likes of Samsung and the two phones did not meet their preliminary releaseschedule on global markets.
Samsung Galaxy A5
Samsung Galaxy A5
The Galaxy A5 is already available in China and the A3 is expected by the end of the year, but as of yet Samsung has not provided any concrete launch dates for other markets, nor any information on the Galaxy A7. We recently learned, however, that a Netherlands device retailer GSMWijzere is expecting both devices to be in stock in January. This is by no means an official statement, but might prove that the Galaxy A3 and A5 are set to hit European markets sometime during the first quarter of 2015.
Samsung Galaxy A3
Samsung Galaxy A3
The Samsung Galaxy A5 is priced at €410 and the A3 respectively at €310, which is reasonable, given their hardware. As far as Availability in Europe goes it seems that for now releases will commence in stages for selected countries so a little bit more patience is needed, while we wait for Samsung to fully prepare its lower-end metal creations.

CyberAgent Ventures earmarks $2.5M for new seed fund

Starting today, CyberAgent Ventures (CAV) is providing a new opportunity for fresh startups – the Seed Generator. According to The Bridge, CAV allocated JPY 300 million (US$2.5 million) from the US$50 million investment fund it announced this June.

Companies seeking seed funding are eligible to apply for that fund but the Seed Generator formalizes the process. Japanese startups from basically any industry background will have a shot at receiving some cash as long as they have operated for less than a year, have at least one engineer on staff, and are not asking for the initial capital to establish a company. The Bridge, which is also an official supporter of the program, confirms that the funding will cap out at around US$100,000.

The creation of the Seed Generator adds to Tokyo’s seed investment community. Because Japanese startups tend to build towards an IPO within three or four years, there are fewer opportunities for investments from mid-stage and beyond. Keeping a dedicated team in the seed community allows CyberAgent Ventures to keep a closer track of new and exciting entrepreneurs.

Aside from offers of cash, CAV is drawing on its past successes to make the program appealing. CEOs from previous investments turned good like CrowdworksTokopedia, andRetty will all be on hand as mentors.

Interested parties can apply online and then have a private meeting or participate in the more open Breakfast for Founders events.

Google Nexus 6 review

When Google purchased Motorola Mobility for 12.5 billion dollars in 2011, many Android fans became elated as Motorola has often been seen as an industry leader when it comes to design, quality, and performance. The thought was that someday we’d see a Motorola made Nexus phone and we’d see a marriage of hardware and software to the tone of something that only Apple could accomplish. While Google has since sold Motorola to Lenovo, we’re still seeing that dream come true in the form of a Nexus.
Nexus_6_Midnight_Blue_Cloud_White-3
In the past, Nexus phones may have lacked or had a subpar feature, such as battery life or camera quality, and it was generally accepted due to the phones extremely wallet friendly pricing. That isn’t the case this time around. Google didn’t focus on aggressive pricing as they did with the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, but have accomplished something that’s possibly even more important to the average consumer, launching on every major carrier here in the United States. With top tier hardware and carrier support, Google’s strategy with the Nexus 6 differs from previous devices not only with quality, but with pricing and availability.
Before we get started, it’s worth mentioning that I was pretty critical of Motorola’s “Shamu” when rumors started to surface surrounding the Nexus 6. We were flooded with credible reports stating that Google and Motorola were working on a phablet, a term that just makes me shudder. I very publicly stated that a smartphone of this size would not be something on my wishlist, in fact, I stated it would be the first Nexus phone that I didn’t want at all. I’ve never owned a phone that sported the “phablet” (shudder) moniker as my daily driver until now.
How have my thoughts changed over the past 5 months, from rumor, to actually using the massive phone? Let’s get started with the Nexus 6 review below.

FIH Mobile's fortunes tied to Xiaomi

Xiaomi, which aims to sell 300 million smartphones next year, up from 70 million this year, is a growth driver for FIH. Photo: Bloomberg

FIH Mobile, which makes half the smartphones sold by Xiaomi, may soon cap its two-year turnaround effort with up to 100 per cent increase in net profit, thanks to its top mainland client's strong shipment growth.

That has made FIH, the world's biggest contract manufacturer of mobile phones, "a good proxy for the strength" of Beijing-based Xiaomi, Daiwa Capital Markets analyst Kylie Huang told the South China Morning Post.

Xiaomi, which investment banking sources expect to launch a US$1.5 billion Hong Kong share offering early next year, is estimated by Daiwa to account for 30 to 35 per cent of FIH earnings this year and 40 to 50 per cent next year.

Daiwa pointed out that FIH also supplied 70 per cent of metal casings used by Xiaomi.

A former Hong Kong blue chip, FIH said in a regulatory filing last week that its net profit this year is expected to surge 80 to 100 per cent from its US$77.28 million profit last year.

FIH chairman Tong Wen-hsin said in the filing that the company's likely strong earnings growth was attributed to an improved gross profit margin of more than 6 per cent during this year, compared with last year's 4.48 per cent margin.

That was driven by increased operating efficiency, solid control of operating expenses, and better allocation of research and development resources at FIH, part of the Foxconn group of companies under Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry.

FIH had suffered losses in two of the past three years and endured a series of cost-cutting measures as its once-largest customers, Nokia and Motorola, struggled to compete against Apple and Samsung Electronics.

Head-phone review

I have a few sets of headphones. I am also in a relentless search for a pair that will satisfy my more recent criteria… I know, it sounds bonkers, but I don’t yet have a pair of cans that will enable me to pause/play/shuffle music on my phone, but also allow me to take calls. The heavyweight search starts today…
I’d not really migrated to using my phone to listen to music. I have fully embraced many aspects of the completely brilliant Smart Phone, from Galaxy S thru HTC One M8, I’m in! But I have always had a niggle about using up the battery, and also the faff involved in moving music around devices (I’m not fully Apple….yet…just love dem ‘droid devices!), so stuck with an iPod. My consumption of music has changed in the last few months. I’m now a fairly heavy Spotify user, and as a delightful consequence, find myself plugged into headphones wherever I go on my tod.
It’s fantastic! Almost a fully soundtracked life (NB: This is my choice of superpower – to always be playing out loud the most appropriate music as I go about my daily life!), and the ability to share playlists with other folks. I can also listen to tracks I hear about/hear on the radio straight away, then buy the CD for ‘proper’ HiFi consumption at home. And I’m doing this on my phone…
From a sonic perspective however, the current format is less than ideal. Essentially, and in deference to their adequate form so far, my headphones sound like tin cans with a piece of wet string, and I find this irksome.
1st World Problem? Yes.
Still need to change headphones? Yes.
I’m not proud, but it’s going to bug the shit out of me, which means additional ‘Grump’ where additional ‘Grump’ can be avoided. But truth be told, I adore music and to lose any avoidable note or expression from the experience is sacrilegious.
So alongside a new car, headphones!
It was a stunning day today, and for once I actually spent some time appreciating the vibrancy and colour of Autumn. I bimbled around a park in Southampton for a while this afternoon, it looked like this;

Apple Will Give Samsung A Big Win?

Apple Will Give Samsung A Big Win

(Technewonline) According to the Korea Times said, starting in 2016 Apple will spend the bulk manufacture chips for the iPhone and iPad for Samsung. Does Apple is bringing a big win for Samsung?

More view: Best Tablet Of Apple In 2014

According to the Korea Times said, starting in 2016 Samsung will manufacture the majority of chips for the iPhone and iPad. This will be a big win for Samsung.

This year, Apple changed the company producing most chips from Samsung for the iPhone and iPad to another company as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), The Wall Street Journal reported. Samsung has been making a small percentage of the number of chips for Apple, but it's still a big loss of business.

This is also part of the reason why this year's profits Samsung has crashed like a stone. In Q3 2014, Samsung's profits fell 50%. Samsung blame the sales of smartphones but the decline in new business phone chip is the main reason leading to this.

But under the new agreement, Samsung will produce 80% of the chips for the iPhone and iPad next year. This agreement brings money's worth "billions" for Samsung, according to the report.

Apple designs its own chips for the iPhone and iPad, but needed a manufacturing partner to build them. Historically, manufacturers were selected as Samsung. However, this year Apple has switched to TSMC. Now it looks like TSMC no longer meet the requirements of Apple, so again Samsung to take this position.

However, although Samsung will be producing most of Apple's chip again, but it still faces a major challenge in its smartphone business. Android smartphone manufacturers such as Lenovo and Xiaomi can produce products with high specifications but only about half the price compared to a Samsung phone.
