LG announces its first smartphone processor “Nuclun”

LG Nuclun with G3 ScreenKorean smartphone maker LG on Friday unveiled its first smartphone processor in the form of Nuclun. Based on ARM’s big.LITTLE technology, LG Nuclun is an octa-core processor, which houses four 1.5GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 cores. It also supports 4G LTE Cat 6 connectivity.
According to LG, Nuclun supports Heterogeneous processing, thus it can adjust the number of performing cores based on the requirements of the task for maximum processing power or maximum energy savings.
“Nuclun opens up a new chapter in LG’s history of innovation in the mobile industry. With this in-house solution, we will be able to achieve better vertical integration and further diversity our product strategy against stronger competition. Nuclun will give us greater flexibility in our mobile strategy going forward,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
